Viljandi Folk Music Festival takes place in the historic Viljandi Castle Hills and city centre. The festival has been here every July since the beginning of 1990s. The event values traditions, heritage and local identity. They also strive to keeps traditions alive, strengthen the Estonian vibe. Viljandi guests can learn to speak the „musical mother tongue”.
Traditional music and dances, as well as workshops and local handicrafts form a beautiful experience full of life and celebration, frequented by a high number of young visitors each year. It is important for festival organisers to give young folk musicians a place to grow and gain experience.
Each year the lineup features around 20 worldwide renowned folk artists as well. Different continents and parts of the world have been a part of Viljandi Folk Music Festival and shared their heritage.
