The crowning jewel (pun intended) of our 4-year effort, BALKAN:MOST Festival has a fully formed lineup with 6 headliners and 24 showcase gigs in the beautiful town of Veszprém, September 7-9.
Rebellious like Dubioza Kolektiv, spirited and sensual like Marina Satti, bohemian as La Caravane Passe, full of bouncy joy like Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra and enticing, just as Daniele Sepe’s pieces, music displays all the region’s manifold colours, and then some. Have a go at Bosnian blues, aka sevdah, experience neofolk, gipsy hop or upland electronica, check out gigs by Bulgarian Oratnitza, interpreters of Bosnian sevdah Divanhana, get lost in the woods with Macedonian Perija at 30 gigs on 3 open-air stages in the Veszprém Castle and City Center.
In line with the MOST mission, this resounding roll call of fresh talent is set to move the needle for Balkan music, and move beyond stereotypes. In cooperation with WOMEX, organized within the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture framework, it is an unmissable fiesta where rising Balkan artists and European music professionals mingle, while 30 open air gigs spread the diverse message of new music from the region.
First of its kind, BALKAN:MOST conveys a fresher, truer picture of the region than any event before, bringing out the region’s rich heritage and dynamic talent. A journey of discovery for concert-goers, an unmissable networking event for the European scene, it is a fitting conclusion to MOST’s four years of passionate work and inspired input.
Mark the second weekend of September in your calendar, and don’t miss the call of one of Europe’s musical treasure troves.
